What the figures mean
- GHI (global horizontal irradiance): the solar energy reaching a flat surface on the ground, in W/m². On a clear summer midday in the US it is typically 800–1,000 W/m² (lower in winter and in the north).
- Daily solar energy (kWh/m²): total GHI over the day. 4.5 kWh/m² or more is a very good day for solar power.
- Per 1 kWp: estimated output of 1 kWp of panels at 80% system efficiency; actual output depends on orientation, tilt, shading and panel quality.
- Sunshine hours: hours with direct normal irradiance (DNI) of 120 W/m² or more, as defined by the World Meteorological Organization.
Radiation figures come from a forecast model and are for reference only.
